Alpha Arbutin is a water-soluble skin-brightening active used in cosmetic formulations to help improve the appearance of dark spots, hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone.
- Recommended usage rate: 0.2–2%
- Solubility: Soluble in water; not oil-soluble
- Melting/decomposition point: Approximately 202–210°C
- Processing temperature: Alpha Arbutin is heat-sensitive, so it is best added during the cool-down phase, preferably when the formulation is below 40°C.
- pH: Generally formulated around pH 3.5–6.5
Processing: Dissolve Alpha Arbutin in a small amount of water first, then add it to the formulation during the cool-down phase. Avoid prolonged exposure to high temperatures, as excessive heat can cause degradation.
